Additional information
Live Lobster and Crab shipping protocol:
The Live Lobsters are first stored in Lobster Tanks and kept at a water temperature of 19 degrees centigrade. The water salinity is 30-35 ppt. 2 hours prior to packing, the water Temp is lowered to 14 degrees to allow the Live Lobsters to sleep.
With regard to packing, please note that we use Styrofoam boxes for packaging. The Styrofoam [Expanded Polystyrene] Boxes measurements based on L X B X H are: 60cm x 40cm x 22cm. The net weight of each Box for the Lobsters is 20- 23kgs dependent on size. Net weight for the Crabs is 12-15kgs per box depending on sizes.
The coolant used are four [4] bottles of deep frozen seawater [-21deg.C]. One bottle [Wrapped in Dry Newspaper] is packed in the middle of each Box. The other 3 bottles [Also wrapped in drynewspapers] are packed diagonally opposite at either end of the Box next to the Lobsters. Each Lobster is individually wrapped in dry newspaper. Alternatively, we can use wood shavings dipped in seawater as bedding and place the Lobsters on them (Together with the frozen bottles to cool the Lobsters). We also pump pure oxygen into the box before completely sealing the box to increase the Lobster survival rate by up to 36 hours from packing to delivery. For the Crabs, the Styrofoam boxes have holes cut around the box to allow air flow and oxygen circulation, but no frozen bottles.
Please note that the time dimension taken, depending on quantity, is as follows:
Mortality rate : 5%
